Welcome to the website of the Mathematics Teachers' Association of the Northern Territory - MTANT for short.
MTANT is an affiliate of the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers (AAMT). We are here for the Mathematics teachers of the Northern Territory: to support and promote the work of maths teachers throughout the Territory, to offer professional development opportunities for teachers and engaging mathematics activities for students, to recognise the successes of our teachers and students, and to be a voice on local and national mathematical issues.
We encourage all teachers of mathematics to become a member of MTANT. In doing so, you will become part of a valuable network of mathematics teachers in the Territory and, through our affiliation with AAMT, part of the largest network of mathematics teachers in Australia.
National Summit on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mathematics EducationLeaders from the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers (AAMT), Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mathematics Alliance (ATSIMA) and AAMT’s affiliated state and territory mathematics associations met in person at a National Summit at the University of Adelaide on the 10-11 April 2024. The purpose of the Summit was to mobilise the mathematics education community of Australia to address Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education in mathematics. As a first step, all delegates at the Summit created a Commitment Statement, which was signed by all delegates, and from the Commitment Statement each State and Territory has developed a draft action plan. On the final day of the Summit, participants crafted the Commitment Statement below and signed up to being unwavering and accountable in actioning their commitment to achieving positive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners. Our responsibility is to drive a cultural shift to make a systematic difference in mathematics education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners. We commit to:
Truth-telling which recognises the past and builds capacity for the future.
Building relationships by listening to and learning from and with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities.
Creating sustainable partnerships based on trust and respect.
Leading and supporting culturally responsive practices.
Advocating for a shared understanding of success.
In doing so, we agree to be unwavering and accountable in actioning this commitment to achieve positive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners.
